Abigail Chapin makes leather bags and pouches, each one hand-block-printed and hand-crafted from start to finish.
After spending years as a touring musician and songwriter, Abigail began making bags 2011, as an experiment separate from her music practice. She explores process and pattern as something intuitive- carving the blocks, printing the leather and sewing it into 3-dimensional pieces. Each piece is printed with original hand-carved wood blocks and sewn in her studio. They are sold in select stores from Brooklyn to Marfa to Tokyo.
In 2016 Abigail gave birth to her first child, Elspeth, and filling a void in her infant's wardrobe, began making soft, hand-painted leather baby shoes with the scraps from her bag process.
